  • Our Program

Parkway Village Childcare Centre offers both a morning, and a full-day program for ages 2 1/2 to Kindergarten. Hidden in the midst of lush forest and spiraling creeks, the environment is our main source of inspiration for our programming. We pride ourselves on the philosophy that children grow through continued exploration of the self and the environment. This includes their community and the people in it.

Through the various aspects of our program, children have the opportunity to develop their life skills, gross/fine motor skills, numeracy skills, literacy skills and positive social relationships.

Trusting the Children: We offer materials to children in a variety of different textures and colours. Creating an environment for the children to feel capable and to create within their own boundaries is a goal that we try to achieve daily. We thrive through encouraging children to experiment with their own ideas and feel a sense of accomplishment at having done it on their own.

Imaginative Play: It is our belief that children learn through play. By acting out real life scenarios, children learn to put the pieces together and make sense of the world around them. Providing lots of opportunities for imaginative play helps the children build on familiar experiences and learn from one another.

The Importance of Down Time: We believe in the importance of resting and recharging. Since children all move at their own pace, we offer quiet play areas for children who choose to have a moment to themselves, or with another friend. Children will often seek out these areas to get away from the bustle of the day. Offering children the chance to slow down and find the spaces in between is important. As well, we aim to provide an outdoor place where children can stop and enjoy the simple things like listening to the birds chirp in the trees, or watching the clouds pass by.

  • Our Day at PVCC

    7:00 am – 10:00am

Children arrive at the centre and get settled in (put lunch away, change into indoor shoes). During this time, we gradually open a range of activities available to the children. This includes sensorial, manipulative, gross/fine motor, dramatic, and creative materials.

    10:00 am – Group Snack

Children wash their hands, and come together to enjoy a nutritious and delicious snack. This can include pancakes, oatmeal, toast, cereal, fruit loaves, etc. served with 2 fruit and 1 vegetable option. All snacks are made fresh, and contain less sugar and preservatives.

    10:15 am – Circle/Group Time

Children come together in our meeting area to discuss the topic of the week/month. Staff work with children to form a point of inquiry in which they choose what questions they may cover during the group time. Activities include: Group discussions, stories, and music and movement.

    10:45 am – Outdoor Adventures

Children may be divided into groups in which they participate in a group walk within our neighbourhood and environment, or enjoy free play in our outdoor space, or nearby park.

    11:30 am – Wash up/ Story Time

Children wash up for lunch, and meet for a mini-circle or story time.

    12:00 pm – 12:20 pm – Lunch

After lunch, children and staff clean up together and get ready for rest time. Children have quiet time to sit on their beds with a book while they wait for others to get settled.

    12:45 – 2:00pm – Rest Time

Children are encouraged to sleep, or rest on their beds while listening to soothing music. Staff are available to assist those sleepers that need it.

    2:00pm – 2:15 pm – Wake Up

Children put beds away, and freshen up for the afternoon. New activities have been put out and children are invited to come explore.

One group will go outside, while another group stays inside to play.

    3:15 pm – Group Snack

Children come together to discuss their day, and enjoy some circle time activities including a story.

    5:00pm – 6:00pm

Children start to get ready for home. Quieter areas of play are encouraged (Colouring, Book Area and Table Toys).

** Daily schedule is subject to change based on seasonal programs including: Yoga, French, Music and Librarian Visits.

  • Morning Arrival

When you arrive, it is important to make staff aware that your child is present and to take the opportunity to talk to staff about your child’s needs for the day. Please take time to settle your child and say goodbye. Please call the Centre by 9:00 a.m. if your child will be absent.

  • Late Pickup

If you have not picked up your child or called the Centre by 6:00 p.m., the senior staff person will contact alternative person(s) from the authorized pick up list to pick up your child. If that person is unavailable, and you have not contacted the Centre by 6:30 p.m., we are required to notify Emergency Services of the Ministry for Children and Families.

If child is picked up later than 6:00 p.m., a late charge will apply ($5.00 per 5 minutes).

  • Gradual Entry

As starting child care, or moving from one program to another, is an important event, we believe that a carefully planned gradual entry will assist you and your child. Our goal is to help children and families feel welcome and supported by ensuring everyone:

    • Feels comfortable at the Centre
    • Begins to build a trusting relationship with the staff
    • Experience a positive start at the Centre and/or in a new program

    Gradual Entry Steps

Step One: Your child and a family member come to the centre for a tour and orientation.

Step Two: Your child will be welcome to stay for two hours a day or longer

Step Three: Your child will stay for half of a typical day
